Democratic Farmer's Party of Germany 1948-1990 Demokratische Bauernpartei Deutschlands, DBD
The Democratic Farmer's Party of Germany, also translated as Democratic Peasant Party of Germany (Demokratische Bauernpartei Deutschlands - DBD), used a green flag with DBD symbol in center, the symbol being yellow on green, a spike, farming tools and the letters DBD, in the
upper half surrounded by the words DEMOKRATISCHE BAUERNPARTEI DEUTSCHLANDS. Volker Moerbitz Keith, 23 Jan 2001
According to Günther 2000 the symbol of the DBD was not unicolored yellow. The white lettering "DBD" should be on a brown background (unfortunately printed black in Der Flaggenkurier), the lettering Demokratische Bauernpartei Deutschlands
should be black on white, the ear should be yellow on white, the plough black. Marcus Schmöger, 26 Jan 2001
"Founded on 17 June 1948 by SED, the Socialist Unity Party, in order to weaken the influence of CDU and LDPD parties on farmers; in fact most cadres were of SED origin. From 1963 on DBD adopted the SED programme. Had more than 80.000 members in 1951, about 122.000 in 1988. One year later DBD distanced itself from SED; finally there was the merger with CDU on 15 Sep 1990.
The emblem – in black and white – is the second one on Es gab nicht nur die Stasi... (It was not only the Stasi...) the text mentions 29 April 1948 as the founding date which is confirmed elsewhere.
A colour photo of a flag closely tallies Marcus’s description only the full name and plow seem to be brown rather than black. The source of that photo is German eBay no. 190101200136 (end 15 Apr 2007)
